31 Jan 21 - Small End Grain Cutting Board

I finished the small end grain cutting board today.  Had to glue a piece of the bigger board.

27 Jan 21 - Cutting Board Redo!

This is the cutting board that Jonathan gave us that I sanded and finished but the problem was when you washed it the grain would swell and become rough again.  I have sanded it 3 different times to get rid of the grain swelling but it kept coming back. So I decided to fix it.
I cut the board up in 1/2 inch slices to make and end grain board.  Here are the slices to be glued together and then finished.
This is the smaller board glued together.  I have to cut it square and sand and finish it.
This is the bigger board in the clamps drying.  I will cut this one on to make the ends square and then finish it.  Hope they turn out better that they were before.

22 Jan 2021 - Overspray from the Deck on the steps

I ran out of daylight before sweeping the pool for the second time so I turned on the light and started sweeping.  I noticed these globs on the step and knew that they weren't there before.
I sent the pictures to the pool guy and he said I needed to get them off as soon as possible.  I used a plastic scraper to loosen them and remove them from the steps.
There were a few on the steps.
We even found a couple on the bottom, it is very hard to see in this photo.  I used the skimmer net which has a sharp plastic edge and used that to loosen the globs.  Glad I didn't have to go in swimming, the water is about 65 degrees!

21 Jan 2021 - Videos of Texturing

Spraying texture.

Knocking down the sprayed on texture.

Removing the floating plastic without getting the over-spray in the pool.

 Removing the plastic.

21 Jan 2021 - Texturing the Edge

Taping off both sides of the edge so they can shoot texture on it.
Lots of tape and paper.
Floating plastic on the waters surface.
Getting ready!
More prep work than it actually took them to shoot the texture.
Edge all textured and the small fist size repair has been retextured.  You can hardly see the repaired spot.

20 Jan 2021 - Edge Work, Light Remote and Chlorinator Installation

The pool guys came back today to work on the edge and back fill to make it level before putting on the texture.
Working on installing the automatic chlorinator tower.
Removed half the back wall of the shed so they could install the remote control to the pool light.  Nasty corroded electrical boxes in the pump house.
The finished chlorine tower.  Fill it with either tabs or sticks and it injects chlorine into the water.  No more ugly blue floating device in the pool with sticks in it.

13 Jan 2021 - Wood Storage Loaded

I got the plywood loaded in the back and some 2 by material and shelving and foam boards loaded on this side.  I also put the black walnut blanks we got from the Holland Bowl Mill in Michigan on our last trip on the top.  Going to work very well!

12 Jan 2021 - Wood Storage Cart

When we cleaned out the shop and unloaded all the stored plywood leaning against the wall there were several roaches living in between the sheets.  I decided to make a rolling wood storage cart, not only to store the plywood but all the other items I have.
I found a measured plan but changed the dimensions slightly because it was wider and longer than the room I have in the shop.  So this is the finished product.
This is the plywood storage side and I put the slats to help reduce the weight.

9 Jan 2021 - C-17 Cargo Plane landing in Daytona!

Kathy and I have been working in the shed cleaning and organizing both yesterday and today when we heard a familiar sound coming down the flight path.  There was a C-17 cargo plane coming in for a landing.  Miss flying that way!  Someday Space "A" will open again, hope we can fly again.

Neither of us could read the yellow tail stripe to see where it was from, but it was way bigger that either the pictures of the video make it out to be.

10 Jan 2021 - Stages of the Pool

27 Dec 2020 - This is what the pool looked like before the resurfacing started.  It was last resurfaced in 1994 with a blue diamond bright finish.  When Kathy bought the house in 1997 the pool was actually blue and very pretty.
Over the years copper in the water adhered itself to the pool surface turning it green.  The brown edge tile and flower like water line tile dated the pool according to the "The Pool Butler".
The pool fill was started at 3:41 pm on 6 Jan 2021.  and finished filling around noon on the 7th of January.  The pool has the green/yellow color from the city water.  No chlorine in our city water system, right!
This mornings picture of an almost clear pool.  The edge still needs to be finished and then the entire pool area will be power washed and the job will be done!  The pump has been running 23 3/4 hours a day since the 8th to get the water clear.

7 Jan 2021 - Pump House Door

7 Jan 2021 - I made this new pump house door from some materials I had lying around the shop.  My first time installing screening on a wooden door.  I did the aluminum door once, but it had the tracks and I had the spline material for the track.  This time I was on my own and when I was finished the screening was tight.  Win!
The bottom kick plate is made from the T-111 siding and the groves match up with the once on the top above the door.  Job is now done!

7 Jan 2021 - Pool is Full!

7:09 am - still not touching the water line tiles.
11:30 am - almost there!
11:53 - both hoses shut off and one removed from the pool.  Going to be fun seeing the water usage report for this one.  And yes it is yellow, our city uses a lot of chlorine to sanitize the pipes.

6 Jan 2021 - Today we are geting plastered!

Today is the day to finish the pool!  Set up is happening.
Trowels, lots of trowels, and boots with spikes attached.

It was a very interesting process.  I must have watched the entire day!

 Spraying it on the walls.

 Hose Pirouette!

Troweling the steps.

Hardest working guy on the job.  He mixed the plaster then dumped it into the hopper which pumped it to the pool.

 Pumping in the finish.

Throwing on the crushed abalone shell to add sparkle to the finish.

The pump truck set up.
Working the finish.
Working the steps.

Troweling after your spikes leave tracks in the plaster.

After troweling the finish they sprayed on the Orange deactivator.  Don't know what it deactivates but it was scary when the finish crew left with the pool looking like this.  They said the next 2 guys would power wash it off.

Power washing the orange "deactivator" off from the finish.

Power washing the plaster cream off the finish

They are acid washing the surface.

6 Jan 2021 - Time to Fill!

Putting the main drain cover on after installing the light.
Ready to drop in the hose.
2:41 pm the hose was turned on to fill the pool.
4:17 pm, it is going to take a while to reach the blue tiles.  We can't turn it on until it reaches the water line tiles.
