5 Feb 21 - New Planer Cleaning

I pulled the planer out of the sealed box and found this rust on the cast iron bed!  Looks pretty nasty.

There was even rust under the blade guard.

And a little on the fence.

With some magic sauce and a scotch brite pad lets see how it turns out.

The magic sauce is WD-40 and a little rubbing with the pad.

And amazingly it came pretty clean.  There is still a shadow on both ends where the rust was, but not bad looking.  I then put a coat of wipe on polyurethane and then a coat of wax to make it slippery.  Now it is ready for use.
