With all the tasks completed at Moms for this year it was time to head home. We got into Indianapolis on I-465 and was about to take the ramp to I-74 when the "Reduced Power" message came on the dash immediately followed by the "Check Engine" light and the "Traction Control" light. We didn't have enough time to process what was happening to take the right ramp which was more level and maybe a down ramp. We were taking the high flying ramp to I-74! The truck decided to stop running, and with that no power steering or power brakes. I eased the truck over to the right as far as I could. The breakdown lase is only about 5 feet wide. The truck and camper are all of 8 feet wide. So I hung out into the lane. What a spot to be in!
Most people slowed down and moved across the yellow line. Kathy started calling our roadside plan to get a wrecker to us and get us off of this ramp.
About 1 1/2 hours after out initial stop the road ranger came over. He was a former Marine, he said I have to call the State Police to direct traffic and I will call a wrecker to get you out of here. I said Please do! The state police officer showed up and he was a retired National Guardsman from Indiana, so we talked for quite a while waiting on the wrecker.
The wrecker showed up a little after 4 pm, we stopped in this location about 1:30 pm. It took him about an hour to get us all hooked up. We had found and contacted at local Chevy dealer just 4 miles from our current spot and they agreed to let us stay in their lot with the camper while they worked on the truck. The closest campground was 30 miles away and we couldn't move the camper once the truck quit.
I rode with the wrecker drive and Kathy rode with the Road Ranger, and we were off!
Pulling up the ramp to I-74.
First exit to the dealership! We are safely off the interstate. What a relief.
