Back Shelf Door Finished?

18 Aug 20 - I went down to ACE Hardware to look for some window tinting and found a sea green window spray.  The main house windows have a green tint to them, but I don't think it is that green.  I used an entire can of spray paint on the glass.
Still deciding if we like it or not.
Another angle of the shelf door.
Still deciding if we like it or not.  If not I can take a razor blade and scrape the paint off and get a smoke color.

Back wall shelves from Feb 2019

4 Feb 2019 - I found the pictures from when I started the door that is in the blog post below.
This shows the original window and the wooden frame that I attached to it to make it fit in the spot.
 Shelves from Feb 2019.

Back wall shelves and door

17 Aug 20 - This shelf is between the back Kitchen door and the laundry room window.  It used to have a wooden door before the remodel and painting of the house.  I have been working on a replacement door for quite some time now, actually over a year.
I found the window part of this and then added 2X4's around it to make it larger than the hole where the shelves are.  I attached some hinges to the back and mounted them to the wall.  I had painted the back side of the door before I attached the hinges.
It is now attached to the wall and is level and plumb.
3 coats of white paint later and it looks like this.  I still have to put another coat of paint on it.
I am going to do something to the glass so you can't see thru it.  I may get to that tomorrow, we will wait and see.  There have been storms rolling thru every day for the past week.  The one today came early that is why I hung the door without painting the front.  I put magnetic catches to the shelves to hold the door closed.  Works great!

15 Aug 20 - Today I put a wall catch on the west gate.  I have been using a cinder block to hold the gate open for many years.  Since the block had broken a picket I decided to do something different.  So Today I installed a catch on the wall of the house.  I used a 2x4 piece in case the gate sags and I have to move the catch so it will line up.  Should make holding the gate open much better.  I also cleaned up the saw dust and wood pieces.  I also used the belt sander and made the kitchen back door easier to open.  The door was a little to wide in certain spots to open smoothly so I used the sander and made it a little smaller so it closed properly.

East Gate Completion

14 Aug 20 - Got the gates hung before lunch!
Pretty straight and level.
Got the pickets put on after lunch before a light rain at 4 pm.
They don't quite line up at the bottom where they meet.  One post is not plumb and the other one is.  Not much I can do about that without digging up one post and setting it in concrete again.  They look so much better!  Happy with them.

East Gate Rebuild Day 2

13 Aug 20 - Building the frames for the east gates.  Got to put the angle braces in.

While putting the angle braces in a big thunder and lightening storm came thru.  I had to stop and pick up the tools and get in the house.  So the work will continue tomorrow.  Would like to get them hung on the posts and all the hardware on them.

Carried the gates over to the camper side.  Install should happen tomorrow.
Waiting to tomorrow.

All the new hinges have been installed.

West Gate Finale

12 Aug 20 - This morning I finished the west gates!  I got a phone call from a Retiree that I used to work with, that lasted an hour.  Then my neighbor walked over and talked for another half hour.  It was good to hear from each of them!  It is so nice to see this gate standing straight.  Just wish I would have taken a picture before I tore it apart.  It was not quite a twisted as the East side gate.
Simple construction and lighter materials.  Hopefully it will last longer and stay straight.

East Gate Day 1

12 Aug 20 - Today I completed the West gate by putting all the pickets back on one half.  Today we are going to start the East side gate rebuild.  Notice the twist in the gate? It wasn't built like that.
It was getting more and more difficult to open and close.  I had put a cable on the back side to help with the sag, but I think that gave it the twist.
Both gates have been removed.  I also noticed the hinges are rusted and will be replaced.  I also broke off some of the lag bolts in the gate ends, so the 4X4's are going to be replaced.  I didn't break any off in the 6X6 posts that hold the gates, so I don't have to replace wither of them.  So I have a trip to Home Depot in the morning to get the hinges and a 4X4.

West Gate Day 2

11 Aug 20 - The second gate frame is completed.  Just have to wait for the glue to dry to remove the center support.  Both gates are level and meet perfectly in the middle.
Just have to put the pickets on and it will be done.
Got the pickets put on the right side, the left gate will be done tomorrow, glue needs to cure.
Hate using a newer picket with the old faded ones, but the pickets shrunk from when they were first put one.

West Gate Rebuild Day 1

10 Aug 20 - Started the rebuild of the west side gates.  They have twisted over the years.  After much research and youtube video watching I hope this gate will not twist or sag.  The gate frame is made out of cedar, which makes the gates lighter and the corners are lap jointed and glued along with screws.
One side frame is up!

6 Aug 20 - Today I completed the Tack Hammer handle.   All sanded and sealed with wipe on varnish.  Ready to use on finishing the stool project.  I still have to get foam for that project.

Camper Tire Issue

3 Aug 2020 - Must have been cold in the truck and humid outside for the camera lens to be fogged up!
On the way back from Ocala today on HWY 40 we got a "Fast Leak" warning on the Tire Pressure Monitor.  The pressure went from 125 psi down to 106 psi before we found a side road to turn into.  It could have been much worse.  Hwy 40 in some parts has very few places to pull off in the national forest.  So I got to do a tire change today!
The tire didn't go flat or explode and cause lots of damage.  That could have been a very bad thing.  I did get the spare on, which I had to put some air in before we hit the road.  We were about 15 miles from home so we took it slow and get home safely.

This is what I found when it inspected the tire for why it was loosing air.  The rubber valve stem had started to crack.  So this afternoon I took it to the tire store and they put on a metal valve stem so that won't happen again.  I have to take the other 3 off and to the store so they can fix those before they do the same thing.  Then I will scrape and paint the white rusty spare.  It was a good day despite this less than 1 hour delay.

1 Aug 20 - Morning Walk

1 Aug 2020 - Our morning walk on the beach before heading to Ocala just in case HC Isaias comes our way.
